Delaware is one of America’s most underrated states. I’ve spent decades traveling there, enjoying the summer beach culture of Rehoboth (where the original Dogfish Head brewery opened in 1995), Milton, Long Neck and beyond. I’m sure the people there hate me, but I love them!
Dogfish Head Founder Sam Calagione is a similarly big fan of The First State — something we have in common with country music artist Jimmie Allen. Last year, Allen paid homage to his hometown of Milton, Del., where Dogfish Head Craft Brewery is currently located, with the Slower Lower Sessions, releasing tracks inspired by growing up in the “Slower Lower” region of Delaware.
Calagione, also being an enormous music fan and artist supporter (just like me!), booked Allen to play a live show at Dogfish Head Brewings and Eats in downtown Rehoboth Beach, which is still beautifully new (the perfect summer vacation spot). Before the show, Allen and Calagione apparently remixed the tune “Slower Lower,” with new beer references and the fun, cheese-filled video you can watch above. There is a specific reference to Slightly Mighty, Dogfish Head’s new low-cal IPA … “she’s slight, but mighty like her home state.”
The video’s worth watching just because Calagione drops by Allen’s house on a bike, and then they just go cruising like kids from the old neighborhood.
